Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) was established in 2007 as a non-profit organization, with the premise to allow disadvantaged children to discover and exploit their musical talents. Based on the principle that music heals, KMA uses the universal language of music as a platform and educational steppingstone. By integrating the diverse communities of Imizamo Yethu and the Hangberg fishing village, in Hout Bay, KMA is the only fully-fledged music school in the valley. The academy provides for over 150 pupils in music lessons and ensembles, conducted by 18 teachers that specialize in over 26 instruments. Regular performances held, and external examinations taken to ensure their core humanitarian values are maintained. Young people are encouraged to achieve their full potential. KMA’s award-winning programs foster racial and social integration in the communities and enrich children’s opportunities as they develop essential cognitive skills.
