South African Tourism Australia Media Group
On the 30th of September Uthando hosted a group from South African Tourism Australia. The group consisted of journalists from Australia travelling with their children (aged 10 – 15 years of age) with the intention of demonstrating how family focused tours including children can get involved with community initiatives in South Africa. The group had a lot of fun visiting and interacting with the Isibane se Afrika “The light of Africa” Choir and the Khayelitsha Shack Art School & Theatre. The tour was reviewed on social media by one of the journalists as follows:

KASI RC – Shack Art School & Theatre is a new ‘shack theatre’ in Khayelitsha. The not for profit performing arts training and performance space gives local youth a voice and a safe space. The program is not only allowing these incredible young people the chance to be seen and heard but is keeping them focused on a positive future and away from the gang, drug and drinking cultures in the township. Whether it’s in music, poetry, dance, or acting that is so raw and real it leaves you shaking, the depth of talent here is immense and it was a real privilege to watch, and for the kids to join them for a session of drama training.
