COVID-19 RESPONSE

When COVID-19 threw the country into chaos, Uthando had our work cut out for us. Our core activities had to grind to an abrupt and unprecedented halt, but that did not stop us from jumping into action in other ways. We have kept our promise to continue supporting the countless organizations dedicated to uplifting their communities and those around them. Between March 2020 and December 2021, thanks to the generous support of our donors and project supporters, we have distributed in excess of R6 million (six million) Rands. We have distributed this much-needed income to more than forty projects since the COVID-19 crisis unfolded in South Africa. These incredible projects are reliable, reputable, and provide emergency assistance to the most at-risk communities in Cape Town.

Looking ahead, as South Africa takes its first tentative steps toward a risk-adjusted opening of tourism, we continue to support our projects in the face of adversity. When the government and health authorities deem it safe to do so, we will respond and operate within the bounds of plausibility. Work is ongoing behind the scenes to ensure we are ready to resume our philanthropic educational excursions when the time is right. We are always committed to safety, and the well-being of our guests, staff, and our project-workers is a top priority.
