The Cart Horse Protection Association is a non-profit animal welfare organization, established in 1995 in Cape Town, to promote the welfare of working horses and donkeys in the Western Cape through service provision, legislation, education, training, and to protect them from abuse. After years of neglect and maltreatment due to the relocation of the cart horse communities, the care and rehabilitation programs invested by the organization has significantly improved the welfare of the working horses and donkeys and has contributed to the development of the Cape Flats carting community, too. Services to over 260 working cart horses and their owners include a farrier agency, a harness shop, treatment stalls and paddocks, and a cart repair workshop. Moreover, an education and training room, administrative offices, and a feed storage barn also provided.
