Siyathandwa, meaning “We are loved” in isiXhosa, Senior Citizens in Action is a group of 40 seniors based in Khayelitsha. The group accommodates people from 60 years of age and over and operates as a senior center where seniors do day to day activities to keep healthy. The project ensures their well-being, companionship, to aid and provide care and support to the seniors living in the area.
The main objectives of the organization are to see the elderly active and happy. The challenges that are facing older adults are recognized, the seniors are supported, and their concerns managed. It works as a structure that helps seniors to perform their services, e.g., exercise, feeding scheme for old age, social discussions, handworks, etc. To provide care support and monitoring of old age people, including disabled and to improve their well-being and overcome poverty. Enjoy positive relationships, peer family, and community members.
